  Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Public Housing waiting list open for new applications?
Yes, We are accepting applications for all bedroom sizes

Can I choose the number of bedrooms?
No, the bedroom size is determined by your household composition.

How long will I have to wait to lease an apartment in Public Housing?
The wait will depend on the number of applicants on the waiting list, their particular circumstance and the amount of vacancies for a particular bedroom size. We estimate the wait to be a maximum of 5 years.

Are there any exceptions for emergencies?
Unfortunately not, we must follow Federal regulations and our Admittance and Continued Occupancy Policy when accepting applications and managing the waiting list. All applications go through the same procedure and wait their turn on the waiting list.

What happens at my Public Housing Application appointment?
The application is filled out by the applicant in the office with assistance from the Housing Director. All verification information is copied and placed with the application. The Housing Director reviews your application for completeness and the data is entered into our computer system.

What happened if an apartment becomes available and I am next on the list to receive an apartment?
The Housing Director will make three attempts to contact you. Twice by phone and once by mail. If all three attempts are a failure you will be taken off of the applicant waiting list.
